Athletics

Child athlete must be an active member of St Brendan Parish for at least 6 months or a current student at St Brendan School to participate in ALL St Brendan sponsored athletics.

All of our athletics forms are now included within the registration process and must be completed at the time you register your child athlete.

Must be an active parishioner for at least 6 months or a St Brendan school student to participate in any of the following sports:

Grades 4-8 Cheerleading  (Cost $80)

  • There are no tryouts. Squads will have 1 practice a week and then cheer at the game.
  • Season consists of 8 games played on Sundays beginning in early September and concluding the first weekend in November (tournament games).
  • Cheerleaders are cheering at the 4th-8th grade St Brendan boys games, which are played at various Columbus Diocese high schools.
  • Uniforms (skirt, vest, and pom-poms) are on loan by SBAA.
  • Parents need to provide black turtleneck, spankies and shoes.

Grades 4-6 Girls Volleyball  (Cost $135)
Grades 7-8 Girls Volleyball  (Cost $135)

  • Must be an active parishioner for at least 6 months, attend St Brendan School or be from a parish without a girls volleyball team.
  • A recreational and competitive league played against other parishes.
  • Teams formed based on number of signups per grade.
  • 7th & 8th Grade JV & Varsity teams typically have 1 competitive and 1 recreational team, depending on signups.
  • All other teams will begin practicing the week before school starts.
  • Regular season games are played on the weekends; 90 min practices are held 2 times per week.
  • Season ends with single-elimination tournament.

Grades 4-6 Boys Volleyball  (Cost $135)
Grades 7-8 Boys Volleyball  (Cost $135)

  • Must be an active parishioner for at least 6 months, St Brendan School student, or a member of other parishes who do not have a Boys volleyball team to play for St Brendan Parish.
  • Will compete in a competitive Boys League consisting of players from parishes within the Diocese of Columbus. The Varsity League (6th – 8th), and Senior Reserve League (4th – 6th) consists of boys from combined or individual grade levels.
  • Players will be placed on teams depending on signups per grade. Sixth grade boys with previous volleyball experience can try out for placement on the Varsity team.
  • Parents will be notified of team placement, roster, and coaching staff once signups are complete.
  • Practice for the fall season will begin in August and conclude in October. Practice days/times will be determined after teams are established.
  • Two 90 minute practices will be held each week during the regular and post season.
  • Regular season games are played on the weekends. Post season ends for each League with single-elimination tournament.

Grades 4-8 Cross Country (Cost $75)

  • There are no tryouts. Practices held 3 evenings per week starting early August at St. Brendan or local park.
  • Season consists of 6-8 meets from early September to mid-October. 2-3 weeknight meets and the rest on Saturday or Sunday.
  • Compete against teams across the diocese with different parishes hosting each meet.
  • Reserve Boys and Girls (4th-5th) race 1 mile. Varsity Boys and Girls (7th-8th) race 2 miles. 6th graders can run either division.
  • Uniforms provided on loan by SBAA. Running shoes needed for practice. Spikes are optional for meets.

Grades 1-5 Boys Flag Football  (Cost $110)
Grades 5-8 Boys Tackle Football  (Cost 200)

  • All equipment is provided including jerseys but is on loan and must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Practices start at the beginning of August and are usually held at St Brendan’s. Flag football practices 1-2 times per week. Tackle football practices 3-4 times per week.
  • Games usually start at the beginning of September and conclude by the beginning of November and are played at various Columbus Diocese schools and Catholic high schools.
  • Tackle football is grouped into a 5th-6th grade team and a 7th-8th grade team.

Soccer Grades K-3 Boys/Girls ($85)

  • Includes a game jersey and socks.
  • Typically one 60 minute practice during the week. All games are on Sunday.
  • This is recreation soccer so no prior experience needed.
  • Competition is introduced but our goal is to have fun and develop skill
  • All interested coaches need to have taken Protecting God’s children and have been fingerprinted.

Golf Grades 6-8 Boys/Girls

  • Competition golf for Boys and Girls for students in grades 6, 7 & 8
  • Must have golf clubs and general awareness of how to play the game.
  • Players will be responsible for all fees incurred.

Grades 2-3 Cheerleading (Cost $60)

  • Cheerleaders are cheering at the 2-3 grade boys games on Sundays in the St. Brendan MPR
  • Girls can Cheer and still play in the 2-3 Basketball Clinic if desired (sign-up for both!). They will cheer and play basketball in back-to-back games.
  • Uniforms (skirt, vest, poms) are on loan by SBAA. Parents to provide spankies, black turtle neck and white sneakers.

Grades 4-8 Girls Cheerleading (Cost $80)

  • There are no tryouts. Squads will meet once a week. (When games begin, squads will have 1 practice a week and then cheer at the game.)
  • Season consists of 8-9 games played on Saturdays or Sundays beginning in early December and concluding by the end of February.

Grades K-1 Girls Basketball Clinic (Cost $60)
Grades K-1 Boys Basketball Clinic (Cost $60)

  • A series of weekend afternoon clinics held at St. Brendan gym.  One clinic per weekend.
  • Focus is on basketball fundamentals, skill drills, and a few actual games played throughout the season.
  • Runs from early December through February, with time off for the holidays.
  • Players receive a jersey and 25.5 inch basketball to keep.

Grades 2-3 Girls Basketball Clinic + Games (Cost $95)
Grades 2-3 Boys Basketball Clinic + Games (Cost $95)

  • A series of Saturday afternoon clinics and team-like practices that focus on basketball fundamentals and skill drills.
  • Players are assigned to teams and play competitive games vs other St. Brendan clinic teams on Sunday afternoons.
  • Runs from early December through February, with time off for the holidays.
  • Players receive a jersey and 27.5 inch basketball to keep.

Grades 4-6 Girls Basketball (Cost $185)

  • Grades 4 – 6 usually have 2 or 3 teams for each grade with skill levels equally divided.
  • Girls receive reversible game jerseys and shorts that must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Girls receive reversible practice jerseys that must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Any uniform distributed that is not returned or returned damaged, player will be required to replace that uniform at cost.
  • Practices range from 60-90 minutes long, 2 or 3 times per week, at St. Brendan or other nearby gym.
  • Games are played at various Columbus Diocese schools on either Saturdays or Sundays.

Grades 7-8 Girls Basketball (Cost $185)

  • Grades 7 and 8 have tryouts to fill 8-10 positions on the Competitive JV (7th) and Varsity (8th) rosters.
  • Girls receive reversible game jerseys and shorts that must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Girls receive reversible practice jerseys that must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Any uniform distributed that is not returned or returned damaged, player will be required to replace that uniform at cost.

Grades 9-12 Girls CYO Basketball (Cost $150)
Grades 9-12 Boys CYO Basketball (Cost $150)

  • There are no tryouts. CYO coaches are all parent volunteers.
  • Depending on interest level, we will form 2 or more teams, sometimes combining girls from different grade levels (i.e. team consisting of freshmen and sophomores).
  • Beginning in mid-November, open-gym sessions will occur 1-2 times per week with times to be determined.
  • Season consists of 8-9 games played on Saturdays or Sundays beginning in early December, with a tournament concluding by the end of February.

Must be an active parishioner for at least 6 months or a St Brendan school student to participate in any of the following sports:

  • Participants receive a T-shirt jersey. Practices are once per week, 60 minutes long, at St Brendan.
  • 2024 Clinic runs for 3 Sundays: March 17, 24 (MPR) and April 7 (St Brendan & Baseball Diamonds)

Grades 4-6 Girls Softball (Cost $130)

  • Grades 4–6 usually have one team for each grade, with a minimum of 11 players. Parent volunteers for coaching are needed.
  • Girls receive a softball visor, jersey, and belt. Pants and socks will be supplied by the parents. Belts must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Each team bats their entire line-ups and each athlete must play in the field for a minimum of two innings.
  • Practices are 2 or 3 times a week, 90 minutes long, at St. Brendan’s fields.
  • We can start practices the first Monday in March. If the weather is too cold, we may use St. Brendan’s gym for practice.
  • Teams will usually play two games per week, with half of our games played at St. Brendan.
  • At the end of the season, there will be a tournament for 5th and 6th grades. (Note, the 4th grade teams do not play in the tournament but they have an extended season.)
  • The Diocese schedules Softball games so that they don’t conflict with Track meets, so athletes may do both sports!

Grades 7-8 Girls Softball (Cost $130)

Grades 4-8 Boys and Girls Track and Field (Cost $75)

  • The season runs from early March until early May and consists of 4 weeks of preseason conditioning and preparation followed by 3 qualifier meets, an all relay meet and a championship meet.
  • Meets are held on Saturdays and an occasional Sunday at either DeSales or Hartley High Schools.
  • Events include many distances of running events from 50 meters up to 1600 meters, several 4 person relay events, some hurdle races for grades 6-8 and field events that include Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus and Softball throw.
  • Practices are usually M-W-F from 5:00 until 6:30 at Weaver Middle School.
  • A fun activity where participation is the main focus for all athletes of a wide range of athletic ability.  An experienced group of coaches and volunteers help each child progress at their own pace and stress all aspects of competition from self-discipline and teamwork, to self-discovery and sportsmanship.
  • Encourage your kids to join us to see what their bodies can do while learning new things and having fun doing it! Track Meets will not conflict with Baseball or Softball games, so students may do both sports!

Little Spikers Volleyball Clinic Grades K-3 ($85)

  • Includes t-shirt and youth volleyball. Sessions focus on fundamentals and mechanics.
  • The 10 sessions are scheduled in April & May on Tuesday & Thursday evenings.
  • Some sessions will be run by guest coaches and players from area high schools and colleges.

Grades 4-8 Diocese Summer League Soccer  (Cost $110)

  • Must be an active parishioner for at least 6 months, attend St Brendan School or be from a parish without a soccer team.
  • July 10 – Sept 8; finishes prior to Football and Volleyball, so no conflict with other Fall Diocese sports.
  • Boys & Girls teams (not co-ed) will be formed based on the number of signups per grade.
  • 10 games with a tournament
  • This will be our 5th year participating in this competitive soccer league playing against other parishes around the city. Last fall we had 4 teams who won the Regular Season or Tournament title.
  • Registration for this League is through SBAA, not Dolphin Soccer.
